Independent musician Antonio Giovanni

Origins

ZADAR is the sound of a beautiful place echoing through pain.

Born in a bedroom during the early days of COVID lockdown, ZADAR emerged from the emotional wreckage of personal grief, family collapse, and global isolation. Its name pays homage to both a post-punk nightclub in New Hope, PA—where the artist’s parents once danced through their twenties—and the ancient Croatian city by the Adriatic Sea. This duality—darkness and light, ruin and beauty—sits at the core of ZADAR’s music and visual art.

Musically, ZADAR blends gothic rock, post-punk, synthwave, and industrial textures into raw, emotionally charged soundscapes. Songs like Crimson Pain channel themes of emotional devastation, longing, and the haunting presence of lost love, wrapped in dark, gothic, mechanical rhythms, reverb-drenched guitars, and haunted vocals. It’s music for late-night walks, flickering streetlights, and private grief rituals.

Visually, ZADAR draws from early 4AD and Factory Records aesthetics, cyberpunk, religious and occult symbolism, and the stark beauty of street photographers like Brassaï, Saul Leiter, and Gjon Mili. Current artwork features crude, expressive brushstrokes, glowing circles, glyph-like forms, and surreal negative space—each piece a visual echo of the music’s emotional weight.

Antonio G, is the founder and main songwriter/performer in Philadelphia's local independent "dark music" group, ZADAR. In the five years since the project’s inception, Antonio has accumulated numerous positive reviews, press articles, interviews, playlist additions, and radio/podcast plays based on the strength of his first five singles; Alien Being - Single Version, The Upstairs Room, Crimson Pain, Julie, and Halos On The Moon Ft Isa Nielsen.
